Who is Sam Fender?

Samuel Thomas Fender was born on the 25th of April 1994 in North Shields, Tyne and Wear. He is an English singer-songwriter, musician. He is a Newcastle United F.C. fan. He also has ADHD (mentioned in his newsletter for the song and album Seventeen going under).
His band consists of Dean Thompson (lead guitar), Tom Ungerer (bass guitar), Joe Atkinson (keyboards, synthesizers), Drew Michael (drums) and Johnny "Blue Hat" Davis (saxophone).
He published his debut EP “Dead Boys” in 2018, his debut album “Hypersonic Missiles” in 2019.
In 2020,he canceled his tour due to COVID-19 and was the first act to perform at the Virgin Money Unity Arena (a socially distant venue) in August.

He attended John Spence Community High School nearby Preston and the sixth form college of Whitley Bay High School with his band mate Joe Atkinson.

In 2010, Sam was spotted in a pub in his home town by Ben Howard’s manager, who took him as a client.

In 2011, he acted in the pilot episode of the TV show “Vera”. In 2012, in an episode of the TV show “Wolfblood”. He did both before being signed as a singer.

In 2017, Sam published his first single “Play God” which was featured in FIFA19, as well as the singles “Greasy Spoon”, “Millennial” and “Start again”.

In 2018, he published the singles “Friday Fighting”, “Leave Fast”, “Dead Boys”, “That Sound” and “Poundshop Kardashians”. As well as Spotify Singles. He was named “BBC’s Sound Of 2018” He signed to Polydor Recordsand and released his debut EP “Dead Boys EP” in November.

After an extended tour, Sam had to cancel several gigs in 2019 after experiencing bleeding in his vocal cords. After a month of rest, he recovered sufficiently to perform as support act for Bob Dylan and Neil Young in Hyde Park.
He won the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2019 Brit Awards and released his debut album “Hypersonic Missiles” on September 13th 2019. It entered the UK Album Chart at No.1. The album was preceded by the singles “Hypersonic Missiles”, “Will We Talk?”, and “The Borders”. On December 10th 2019, he released a new track titled “All Is On My Side”.

In February 2020, he released his single “Hold Out” and in March, he released his cover of “Back to Black”.
He cancelled the weekend tour in May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In August 2020 he was the first act to perform at the Virgin Money Unity Arena, a specially created socially distanced venue.
